Bob Chirinko, department of finance, presented his paper on “Greenspan Shrugs: Bond Market Volatility, Formal Pronouncements, And Central Bank Communication” at the Illinois Economic Association meeting held at DePaul.
Jennifer Hoobler, associate professor of managerial studies, talked about the gender gap for manager’s pay, in a McClatchy Newspapers article. Professor Hoobler has an article which will be published this quarter in the journal Leadership Quarterly entitled “Do ‘protean’ employees make better leaders? The answer is in the eye of the beholder.” This was work done with Jon Briscoe of Northern Illinois University and Kevin Byle of Geico.
Aris M. Ouksel, IDS, has the following journal papers accepted: “Loyalty Intelligence and Price Discrimination in a Duopoly” in Electronic Commerce and Research Applications, with Ferdi Eruysal, MIS PhD student; “An Economic Approach to Publish/Subscribe in Mobile Environments” in Wireless Networks with Doug Lundquist, MIS PhD student; and “Communicating Complex State Machines in Web Services Environments,” in Distributed and Parallel Databases with F. Zoubeyr. Professor Ouksel also presented the 2010 keynote title, “Collaborative Data Management and Data Discovery: Applications Challenges and Opportunities,” at the International Conference on Web and Information Technologies, June 16-19, 2010, Marrakech, Morocco, and International Symposium on Collaborative Technologies and Systems, May 17-21, 2010, Lombard, Illinois. His NSF grant, “Context-Driven Management of Heterogeneous Sensor Networks in Hazardous, Surveillance, and Traffic Environments,” has been renewed ($1,895,595). Aris is co-PI among five on this grant with 20 percent participation.
Michael A. Pagano, interim dean of the CBA, was featured in a First Business Chicago video on the Chicago and Illinois Budget Outlooks.
Dale Rosenthal, assistant professor of finance, was featured on First Business News talking about the possible risks of investing in silver.
Jelena Spanjol, assistant professor of marketing, gave two presentations at the 2010 PDMA Research Forum (October 16 & 17) in Orlando, Florida. The presentations were titled “Strategic Orientation’s Role in Innovation across Product Types: A Decompositional Approach” and “Demonstrating vs. Developing Competence: Team Approaches to New Product Decisions and Outcomes”.
