Tell us a little about your personal/professional background?

As a first-generation college student, I always knew I wanted to give back while doing something that interests me. My major in undergrad was Business Management. If you would have asked me where I wanted to be 5-7 years ago, my answer would have been working in human resources. However, I developed a love for higher education while I was an orientation leader at Eastern Illinois University.

Making connections in EIU’s admission office led me to a position at the Illinois Student Assistance Commission, Community Outreach division. There I worked with high school students and families in my area, assisting them with college and career planning, and financial aid preparation.

Working with ISAC led me to an opportunity of working at Prairie State College while pursuing my Masters of Education. While working there, I was blessed with career advancement options that led from financial aid processing to academic advising.

How did you end up working at UIC?

After working at Prairie State College for over 3 years, I began to search for institutions that would allow me to broaden my horizon of the love I found for higher education. UIC’s diverse campus and commitment to students drove me to seek out opportunities here.

What are you most excited to do in your new role?

I’m most excited to help and encourage students. I also would love to get more involved with a few committees and/or groups on campus.

What critical information should students know about?

I will always be here to help them and to do what is in their best interest. I have been where you are. I have struggled financially, academically, and emotionally but I succeeded. I am determined to help you all do the same, no matter what obstacles you face.
