Student Spotlight: Myles O’Hara, Finance Major

Internship experience with Options Clearing Corporation.

I was fortunate enough to gain great internship experience at the Options Clearing Corporation. I worked in the Project Management Office for the entire year and have had a great learning experience in this position. I worked in automating the sign-off process for the SDLC (Systems Development Life Cycle). Also, I was involved in auditing projects involved with the Customized SDLC.

What job do you hope to obtain with your degree? Why?

It has been my dream to work for the Government one day, mostly with the CIA or a foreign service abroad. I have had the chance to study abroad twice, in Austria and Slovakia, and look to further my abroad experience with work opportunities. I am fortunate enough to have a job post-graduation with Prescient Edge.

What student organizations (or extracurricular activities) have you been involved in at UIC and/or in the community?

I am heavily involved in:

  • Omega Delta Fraternity
  • Cycling and Triathlon Club Team
  • German National Honors Society
  • Project COMP / Sprouting Leaders
  • 2 Time Chicago Marathon Finisher:  Best Time is 3:42:01 – (One second behind my buddy, Sky Kim, that ran side by side with me the whole race in 3:42:00. We were very competitive that last mile and unfortunately, he got the best of me.
  • Wisconsin Ironman Finisher (2.4 Mile Swim, 112 Mile Bike ride, 26.2 Mile Run) in 14 Hours: 17Minutes: 41 Seconds

5. What advice would you give to students entering their first year at UIC?

  • Get involved. Whatever you put into your experience here at UIC, That’s what you will get out of it.
  • Gain those friendships early, especially since UIC is a large commuter school.
  • Join Greek life! It’s a great way to meet people, and network, while making new friends!
  • Your college years will fly by, so make the best of your school and social experiences!
