What prompted you to return to school to achieve your MBA?
I was interested in changing industries and found it difficult to transition from retail management with out a master’s degree.

What was the most important factor for you in choosing an MBA program (or factors you considered)?
Location, diverse student body, challenging courses, job placement and career counseling

Why did you choose UIC Liautaud for your MBA?
The tuition was more reasonable when compared to DePaul and Loyola.

We all know that people pursue the MBA to increase their business knowledge, but since you have started the program, what has been the most unexpected gain the MBA has given you?
I have increased my networking circle tenfold. This has been invaluable when searching for careers and talking to peers about their work experiences.

The UIC Liautaud MBA professors are continuously involved in researching new business trends and innovations. How have you felt the professors have been able to integrate their theoretical knowledge into practical applications? Do you have any examples?
Professor Hoobler provided us with a few great examples of her previous work experience with State Farm in Organizational Behavior. We spoke about her research in work family balance.

Which class/professor has been your favorite thus far and why?
I was really impressed with Professor Shelley Brickson last semester in her Negotiations course. Her reading selections and lectures were stimulating and provoked a number of discussions in class.

What is your favorite aspect of the UIC campus and why?
It is in a really convenient location and the recreation center is amazing. Balancing school and work can be stressful so having a top-notch recreation center at our fingertips gives the students and alumni the option to relieve stress in a really positive way. This is particularly helpful during the long, cold Chicago winters.

How would you define the Liautaud student?
Hard working, experienced, and proactive.

What advice would you provide to incoming UIC Liautaud MBA students?
Get involved with as many organizations you can and spend time with your classmates. I have found that speaking with my classmates about their work experiences can be just as valuable, if not more, as the content discussed in class.
