What prompted you to return to school to achieve your MBA?
I have always enjoyed art and design, which is why I pursued a fine arts degree.  Then I went out into the real world and quickly realized that while there is great talent within the art and design industry, there isn’t a whole lot of business experience.  I think the economy has given many, including myself, the push needed to go out and really refine what you would like to do in life.  I hope to one day have a job that allows me to meld my artistic and new found business skills.

What was the most important factor, or factors you considered in choosing an MBA program?
I was looking for unique opportunities (such as the tech ventures program,) smaller program size, and a location somewhat close to home for ease of commuting.

Why did you choose UIC Liautaud for you MBA?
It really came down to deadlines, timing, and the fact that their entrepreneurship concentration is among the top in the country.  I really feel like I am getting the best bang for my buck here.

We all know people pursue an MBA to expand their business knowledge, but since starting the program, what has been the most unexpected gain the MBA has given you?
Hands down the networking opportunities.

Which course has been your favorite so far and why?
Organizational Behavior with Professor Barlow.  Not only does he have great experience and knowledge that continues to keep you engaged in the course, but everyone has had experience with management, good or bad, which makes the content relatable to almost everyone.

How would you define the Liautaud student?
Dedicated.  It truly is great to see how much time and effort students put into their course work, all while balancing their obligations outside of the classroom.  It is very inspiring!

Aside from classes, what have you enjoyed most about being a Liautaud student?
The organizations have been great.  There have been many opportunities to meet new people and lots of fun events.  It’s great to have occasions where you can step away from the work and let loose with all the great people you have met in class. I have already established some great friendships in the short amount of time I’ve been here.

What advice would you provide to incoming UIC Liautaud MBA students?
Network, network, network.  While it can be challenging to juggle work, classes, family life, etc., part of your experience should be embracing the opportunities to expand your network and to grow your list of contacts.  It’s amazing how many opportunities can come your way through networking!
