The Illinois Small Business Development Center at the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce plays a key role in the resources that the Chamber of Commerce offers businesses and entrepreneurs, resources that include business planning, market research, assistance dealing with local governments, and much more. This fall, Liautaud students have the opportunity to explore these resources in MBA 590 – Foundations in Entrepreneurship, an 8-week course led by Florence Hardy, Director of the Illinois SBDC at the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce. Over the last eight years, Hardy has practiced law and consulted businesses in Chicago, giving her a wealth of insight into what entrepreneurs commonly lack in the early stages of a venture.
MBA 590 is designed to give entrepreneurs a strong head start. Students will analyze a variety of case studies, identify and recommend startup opportunities, and develop their own new-venture proposals over the course of the class, which they will present at the end of the 8-week session. Students will leave the course knowing how to formulate ideas for new businesses, how to assess risks in a new venture, how to identify customers for a new business, how to recruit, and how to pitch to investors.
