Net Impact Presents Green Construction at NewGrange Development

Thank you to Net Impact Co- Treasurer, Danni Zheng, for contributing this post.

On February 27, Net Impact held another successful company profile event to start the spring semester. This time, we had the pleasure of welcoming Sean Moran, President of NewGrange Development, who joined us to share stories of his Green Building company and some exciting new sustainable projects.

NewGrange Development is a design-build, general contracting, and construction company with a focus on sustainable development. As a member of the USGBC (United States Green Building Council), NewGrange Development specializes in sustainable design, quality buildings, and environmental stewardship, with a mission to improve buildings and enrich environment and a perspective of triple-bottom-line: People, Planet and Profit.

During Sean’s presentation, he shared stories about the start-up and early stages of NewGrange and  valuable insights about sustainable construction. Sean referenced specific examples of how the construction industry could improve “greenness” by material recycling, energy saving, and building redesigning, etc. He also talked about their current efforts in building a library where people can have free access to book resources on sustainability, and on promoting recycling in the construction industry given the growing problems of Chicago’s landfill.

Throughout the event, Sean not only brought us the excitement of the sustainability potential in construction industry, but also addressed numerous questions from the audience about the green building, including opportunities of get involved and contributing to this area. UIC Net Impact would like to thank Sean Moran for sharing his experience with us, as well as everyone who attended. We look forward to seeing you at future Net Impact events!
