Meet the New UIC Business Recruiters

Roxanne Padash, Recruitment of transfer students from Chicagoland community colleges Heading link

Educational Background: Roxanne earned a B.A. in Communications and Psychology (2009) and M.Ed. in Counseling (2013) from DePaul University’s counseling program in Chicago. As a graduate student, Roxanne worked at DePaul University advising probation students and evaluated admission essays for the test-optional admission program. She also served as a graduate assistant at Columbia College where she guided new students and analyzed student survey data.

Inspirations: “Being a first-generation student and not having the resources laid out for me, I had to seek them out myself and find out information on my own. I like to be that person who provides students with the type of help that they need. It motivates me to give students all the information that they may need in order for them to be successful.”

Favorite pastime:  Roxanne loves to volunteer and play with her two dogs. She has an energetic Lab retriever, who’s almost a year old and enjoys playing catch with her for hours throughout the day, and a Beagle who is almost six years old.

John Frese, Recruitment of first-year students in the Chicago suburbs Heading link

Educational Background: John attended Carthage College and with a natural proclivity for English, John joined the teaching program, majoring in English with a minor in Secondary Education. He also received a minor in Psychology, a field which attracted him and really furthered his abilities in working with individual students.  He then chose to attend Northern Illinois University’s exceptionally comprehensive counseling program and graduated with a Master of Science in Education.

Inspirations: “Coming from a counseling background, what motivates me is being able to provide the support necessary to bolster someone else’s dream.”

Favorite pastime:  John enjoys coaching soccer in his spare time. Last year, he coached the junior varsity team at Dundee-Crown High School.

Bethini Williams, Recruiting at Downstate Illinois and neighboring states Heading link

Educational Background: Bethini began her educational experience at The University of California, Davis, where she double majored in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and African American and African Studies. As a student, Bethini grew increasingly passionate about student recruitment and retention, and worked for several years as a Peer Advising Counselor with the Educational Opportunity Program and a Peer Adviser with the African American and African Studies Department prior to graduation. She also created student services programs in support of the Student Recruitment and Retention Center and The Cross Cultural Center.

Inspirations: “I was very lucky to have encountered an amazing, supportive staff at University of California, Davis, who helped shape my educational experience and it really inspired me to want to do the same for other students.  While I was at University of California, Davis, I was able to walk students through from their summer break programs to them taking on leadership roles, and a lot of them are working in student services now. It’s really nice to see that train of progression and to feel that you’ve really made a difference in somebody’s life.”

Favorite pastime:  Bethini enjoys creating music, cooking, and traveling. Most of her spare time is dedicated to either listening to music or creating music.
