Liautaud Students Recognized With Leadership Awards
39th Annual Chancellor’s Student Service and Leadership Awards
On Wednesday, April 13, 2011, UIC held a recognition ceremony to honor outstanding student volunteers engaged in campus and community service. The recipients of the awards had been nominated either by their peers, student organization advisers, faculty, or staff at the University.
UIC invited Ms. Jenne Meyers to be the keynote speaker for the awards ceremony. Ms. Meyers is the Chief Service Officer for the Mayor's Office in the City of Chicago. As the first-ever Chief Service Officer for Chicago, her charge is to develop and implement a citywide plan for increasing volunteerism and utilizing volunteers to address some of the city's greatest needs, particularly focusing on programs and services that promote the economic recovery and provide out-of-school opportunities for young people. The service plan and campaign she developed, One Good Deed Chicago, was launched in January 2011.
