Investing in Today’s Markets | Kemper Corp. Visit with GFIN

Heath M. Bray, portfolio manager for Kemper Corporation, lit up the UIC campus when he spoke with an audience of Liautaud students about investing in today’s markets. Those lucky enough to attend were rewarded when Mr. Bray, a 14-year veteran of the insurance industry who specializes in fixed income investments, talked about the difficulties in earning yield while navigating the constraints levied by the Federal Reserve. One of the takeaways Mr. Bray passionately stressed was that the signals given off by the Fed have immense power over investor expectations.

In addition to talking about the current market environment, Mr. Bray shared his insights into his career path and how he got to his current position. The open discussion forum allowed students to ask questions and get feedback that will help when designing their own career path. Heath stressed the importance of the CFA designation for anyone who is looking to get into the investment management field.

Thank you again to Heath Bray for his entertaining and enlightening talk filled with real world examples. A special thanks to Andrew McCoy and Mike Mihailescu, who were instrumental in making this event a success.
