Incredible Story of Jackie Santiago: How Education and Hard Work Changed Her Life

Jackie Santiago, '23

Jackie Santiago’s academic and professional journey is a compelling example of how dedication and hard work can lead to remarkable outcomes. Arriving in Chicago at 14, Jackie faced significant challenges learning a new language and adjusting to a different culture. The self-directed learning process led her to achieve a perfect 4.0 GPA upon graduating from high school, demonstrating her dedication to academic excellence. This December 2023, Jackie, the first in her family to attend college, will proudly don her graduation cap, having completed a double major in Information Decision Sciences with a concentration in Management Information Systems, and Business Management.

While pursuing her education, Jackie concurrently maintained a full-time role in the sports industry at the United Center and Guaranteed Rate Field. Her academic endeavors were supported by the CME scholarship, which is dedicated to underrepresented minorities in technology and finance. The scholarship allowed her to focus on her educational growth and enhance her engagement on campus. Jackie joined the student organization ALPFA (Association of Latino Professionals For America) at UIC Business.

Jackie has always aspired to integrate her creative and technical skills in a career grounded in technology and driven by innovation. Initially, she aimed to become a technical product manager at a leading company like Google. However, her career focus shifted slightly following her internships. Specifically, at Guaranteed Rate Field, where she contributed to web design, and at Protiviti last summer. These experiences have steered her aspirations towards consulting. She has received and accepted an offer for a full-time position as a Technology Risk and Resilience Consultant with the global business consulting firm Protiviti after her graduation.

Jackie is a living proof that success is not just about where you start, but how far you’re willing to go. This story is more than just a personal success; it serves as an inspiration to countless students who may find themselves facing similar challenges.
