GMARK Marketing Insights Workshop Provides Valuable Resource Information

Thank you to Elizabeth Holly, GMARK Vice President, for contributing this post.

Earlier this semester, the Graduate Marketing Association (GMARK) hosted a Marketing Insights workshop in conjunction with the resources staff at the UIC Daley Library. Representatives from both Mintel Oxygen and Simply Map came to present the group with tutorials on how to access and utilize the databases.

Mintel is a unique database of analyst reports in numerous different industries – from pet food to pizza, frozen yogurt to the DIY home improvement market. The reports contain market information for nearly any product you could imagine. Mintel provides consumer information, opportunities and risks, market trends to watch for and data from industry-specific journals, as well as government publications. It is a great tool to use to stay on top of the trends in your industry and is especially helpful when conducting market research for coursework or entrepreneurial ventures.

Simply Map is a geographical research tool that allows users to create their own maps using industry and market-specific data. Data can be organized and displayed by cities, counties, ZIP codes and even blocks!  Simply Map provides access to data variables such as income level, employment, housing, consumer spending, brand preferences, and much more.

UIC students have many resources available to them through the UIC Daley Library. Be sure to check out these and many more databases available to you as Liautaud students available online at http://researchguides.uic.edu/business.

Special thanks to UIC Librarian Marcia Dellenbach for her help in carrying out this great event.
