Faculty Members Present Research Across the Globe

Every week, UIC Business faculty members are hard at work developing new insights into the business world. Here’s what some of our faculty have been up to during the last week:

On August 11, 2013 at the annual meeting of the Academy of Management, Bob Liden, professor of managerial studies, was elected as a fellow of the Academy of Management: “The Fellows of the Academy of Management have elected and confer the honor of membership upon Robert C. Liden in recognition of distinguished and scholarly contributions to the profession of management. With this honor goes the obligation to maintain research standards and to advance the value of the discipline in furthering organizational success.”

IDS Professor Matthew Liotine has been named to Academic Program Advisory Board of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), an organization that engages in the development, adoption and use of globally accepted, industry-leading knowledge and practices for information systems. In his role, he will work with other board members from around the world to identify and support activities required to foster adoption of ISACA practices and standards within academic curricula across the globe. He is also the UIC academic advocate for ISACA, and will be working to establish a student chapter within UIC.

Finance professor Dale Rosenthal presented his work “Market Structure, Counterparty Risk, and Systemic Risk” at the National University of Singapore’s Risk Management Institute conference in July.  He and fellow faculty member Hefei Wang also presented their work “Transaction Taxes in a Price Maker Taker Market” at the China International Conference for Finance in Shanghai.  They also met to discuss both papers with the heads of research at the Shanghai Stock Exchange and Shanghai Futures Exchange.

A paper by Professor Elina Tang, “Optimal Resource Allocation with Time-varying Marketing Effectiveness, Margins and Costs”, won the 2013 Award for the Best Paper published in the Journal of Interactive Marketing.  The paper was co-authored with Kalyan Raman (Northwestern), Shrihari Sridhar (Penn State), and Murali Mantrala (Missouri) with equal contribution from all authors. The Journal of Interactive Marketing is a premier academic journal that addresses current or emerging managerial problems in digital marketing and related areas.

Professor Sandy Wayne, Grace Lemmon (UIC PhD alum), Professor Jenny Hoobler, and doctoral candidate Morgan Wilson presented their paper titled “Employee work-to-family conflict and career outcomes: Differential effects of manager supportive behaviors” at the Academy of Management Meeting in Orlando, August 11-13.  Their paper was selected as the Reed Center Best Careers Applied Paper Award Finalist.

Congratulations to our faculty on their outstanding contributions to their respective fields and the well-deserved recognition. Each new insight a faculty member uncovers helps our students gain a clearer understanding of the business world.
