Celebrating the College and Its Community

Friday night marked the fourth annual Celebrating the CBA Scholarship Banquet and Awards Ceremony. This yearly event brings together everyone who makes the college such a successful place. This year, we moved the event to the fall and it fell just weeks after we were ranked the top undergraduate business program in the Chicago area by U.S. News & World Report for a second year in a row. The night provided a great opportunity to celebrate this spectacular achievement, and recognize the many people who helped make it happen.

We had the largest crowd of any year. Our new cohort of Business Scholars took the opportunity to meet alumni, community partners and donors. Members of the college’s Business Advisory Council were also present as were many faculty and staff members showing their support for our scholarship students.

Scholarship students are the real stars of the evening. Many of our students would not have the opportunity to attend UIC Business without the generosity and support of donors. It is always gratifying to watch our students and their donors interact. I know that scholarship support encourages our students to work harder, but it also allows them to have a more fulfilling experience at UIC, because they don’t have to devote as many extra hours to working to pay for school. Hearing the students’ stories shows donors that they made the right choice with their gift, and I think it even encouraged a few people to start donating even more.

The evening is a great night to celebrate the achievements of our students and alumni. It truly captures the spirit of UIC Business–transforming student potential into career success.
