3 Essential Tips to Getting Good Grades this Spring!

Last semester, you probably promised yourself that you would get straight As. Maybe some of you did, and maybe some of you didn’t. Whatever the case may be, the spring semester has just begun allowing you to start fresh. As of now, you have a 4.0 for the semester! Crazy right? Now it’s up to you to figure out whether you’re going to maintain that high grade point average or allow it to slip from your grasp.

Going from a relaxing winter break to a somewhat hectic schedule is never an easy transition. Nonetheless, it has to be done. Here are some tips to getting good grades this semester:

Attend Class
This key point is common sense; nonetheless, it’s so easy to skip class in order to stay in bed longer or hang out with friends. Don’t do it! Skipping class only puts you behind and turns you into that annoying student who has to ask to borrow someone’s notes. Even if you think the teacher isn’t covering important information that day, it’s still imperative to attend class because there is work, such as pop quizzes and extra credit that is given unexpectedly. In plus, why would you, or your parent, want pay for a class you’re not even attending.

Read the Book & Study
Ever been called on in class to discuss an assigned reading that you didn’t bother to read? It’s embarrassing! Being prepared for class is essential to getting good grades. Read your book and make notes about information that you may not have understood. Reading ahead allows you to better understand what the professor is discussing in class and shows the teacher that you actually take their class seriously. To add, don’t just read take notes. According to a Huffington Post article, “The very act of writing things down helps to get them lodged into your long-term, not short-term, memory.”

Participate in Class
Don’t be the student who goes to sleep or texts in class. Occasionally, you may feel your phone vibrating and have the urge to respond to a text; however, it’s disrespectful to the instructor. Vow to give your full attention in class and actively participate. Involving yourself in class makes you stand out to the professor, making them more willing to help you in the future. Ask and answer questions, take notes, attend review sessions, and be determined to get an “A.”
