UIC Liautaud Alum’s Tech Company Named “Moxie Award Finalist for Startup of the Year”

Matt Gorniak, MBA 2002 Alum, is Co-Founder and COO of G2 Crowd, a new tech company that was named as a finalist of the “Moxie Award for Startup of the Year” this week presented by Built in Chicago and New World Ventures which gathers Chicago’s most innovative digital entrepreneurs.

G2 Crowd is a tech startup that is directly competing with the well-known Gartner Magic Quadrants that rely on analysts and market research to rate a limited group of software companies. G2 Crowd has been featured in Forbes, Business Week, CIO, PC World and Tech Crunch and has been called the “Yelp for Business Software.” Matt says “We want to help business software buyers make better decisions based on peer reviews. We also want to disrupt the Gartner Magic Quadrants.”  G2 Crowd is currently in beta mode and it’s site focuses on business software reviews designed to help anyone, from end-users to CIOs, compare and select the best software based on authentic peer reviews and ratings. G2 Crowd provides a resource for businesses of all sizes to access unbiased, first-person insight and best practices to guide technology purchase decisions. Visit www.g2crowd.com

Join us in congratulating Matt Gorniak and G2 Crowd in their increasing momentum in being recognized as one of the best new startup’s that was “built in Chicago.”

Matt Gorniak is a seasoned high tech executive that has worked in leadership roles for global leaders GE, CAT, and EMC, as well as software start-ups such as OctetString (sold to Oracle). Most recently Matt led alliances and sales at BigMachines and grew revenue from $2 to $50 million making BigMachines one of Inc. 5000’s Fastest Growing companies for five years in a row. Matt was born in Poland, raised in Germany, and studied in the US. He is a techie deep down as he started programming and using online bulletin boards as a teen back in the 1980s. At a recent Business Alumni Party, Matt fondly reflected back on his experience at UIC while in the MBA program, whose concentration was in Finance, particularly his management and accounting classes and said “I really liked the professors and thought they were very good. Its the best value in town.”
