UIC Business Alumnus Brad Sargent Lights the Flame

On January 12, UIC Business alumnus Brad Sargent ’99 joined a lineage of distinguished alumni in the ceremonial Lighting of the Flame. The Lighting of the Flame tradition started in 1998, and every year select UIC alumni and friends serve as official Torch Bearers, carrying a symbolic torch to light the cauldron before a Flames home basketball game at the Credit Union 1 Arena.

A longtime champion of UIC and Flames basketball, Sargent exemplifies UIC values and commitment to excellence. Graduating from UIC Business with a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1999, Sargent went on to a storied career as a forensic accounting consultant. In 2009 he founded the Sargent Consulting Group, specializing in forensic accounting and financial investigations, and has successfully grown the business to serve clients in three metro areas. A highly regarded authority in his field, Sargent regularly serves as an expert witness in white-collar criminal cases and is a sought-after speaker in the field.

Despite the rigors of running his own consulting practice and being a devoted husband and father, Sargent always finds ways to give back to his alma mater. Sargent is a frequent guest lecturer in accounting classes, presents to student groups such as the Flames Consulting Group and was the keynote speaker at the 2019 Accounting Banquet. He and his wife Michelle have also been donors to UIC Business for more than 20 years.
