UIC College of Business represented at Product Development Management Associations Research Forum

The strong representation of seven UIC College of Business Administration Marketing department faculty and UIC Liautaud Graduate School of Business Phd in Business Administration doctoral students at the Product Development Management Association’s Research Forum at the 34th Annual Global Conference­ clearly demonstrates that UIC’s focus on Innovation research is being recognized on a global level.

Two UIC Liautaud Marketing doctoral students, Frederik Beuk and Laurel Ofstein, won Best Student Paper awards for their submissions: “The Effect of Concern for Reputation on the Sales Effort During New Product Launch” (Frederik Beuk, Albert L. Page, and Alan J. Malter), and “Building and Sustaining Creative Cross-Functional Teams: Influencing External Orientation in the New Product Development Process” (Laurel Ofstein and Albert L. Page).

UIC Liautaud Marketing doctoral students Haisu Zhang and Chengli Shu also presented a paper that has been accepted for publication in the Journal of International Marketing, entitled “Managing Innovation in Strategic Alliances:  A Knowledge-Based View,” (Haisu Zhang, Chengli Shu, Xu Jiang, and Alan J. Malter).

Assistant Professor of Marketing, Jelena Spanjol, also presented two papers: “Identifying When and How Strategy Orientation Affects Innovation: Exploring Differential Effects for Services vs. Manufactured Goods and Incremental vs. Breakthrough Innovation,” and “Time Will Tell: A Longitudinal, Repeated Measures Exploration of Diversity in Teams and Effects on New Product Decisions and Outcomes.”

Other UIC faculty in attendance included: Professor of Marketing and Department Head, Albert L. Page, who also serves as the Vice President of Publications for the PDMA, Cheryl Nakata, Professor of Marketing and Vice President of Academic Affairs for the PDMA, and Anna Cui, Assistant Professor of Marketing.  During the Research Forum, Cheryl Nakata and Jelena Spanjol announced the inaugural PDMA-UIC New Product Development-Innovation Doctoral Consortium to be held July 15 – 17, 2011 on UIC’s campus.
