After the fun filled summer, the batch of Fall 2011 MIS students returned to school this fall and hit the ground running on August 27 with an INFORMS UIC Liautaud Chapter meeting. They realized that it was time to plan an event much larger than ever before to welcome the new audience: the fall 2012 yield of new MIS students!
INFORMS decided to host an Alumni meeting and bowling event on Friday, September 7, which would give the fresh grads an opportunity to interact with seasoned folks and have some fun at the same time. They organized a 7-member alumni team with graduates from 2006 to Spring 2012.
The event begun with Vaishali Nagoree (MS in MIS 2006) addressing a packed Douglas Hall lecture hall of about 65 students. The audience members swapped places to find a ‘stranger’ to sit next to. A minute was given to talk with the new acquaintance for each person in the audience. With each person introducing his/her neighbor and their interests, the ice was broken almost immediately. The alumni were enthusiastic in answering all the audience queries from professors to watch for, to resumes and to coursework. One could observe a nostalgic tone in their voice whenever they touched any topic related to UIC.
After the alumni meet and greet, more than 70 MIS contingents made their way to the bowling alley at Student Center East for a little fun. With music, refreshments, pizzas, 10 pins and bowling balls, the stage was set for conversation, fun and networking. Professor Sid Bhattacharya joined in at the bowling alley, and alumni flocked to greet him and exchange happenings of the times gone by since their last meeting. The event had achieved what it set out do: a shared camaraderie with each other.
INFORMS wants to thank everyone who attended this great event and extend a very since thank you to the alumni who came out for the occasion.
