Study Business Abroad

As winter is right around the corner in Chicago, it is not to early to start thinking about the summer! I know you may be thinking what is so great about the summer...well I am sure you can think of many great things that are associated with the summer, but for MBA students two great things happen during the summer.

In the summer the UIC Liautaud Graduate School of Business in conjunction with the UIC Study Abroad Office offers two opportunities to learn business abroad. These opportunities take shape in the form of the Doing Business in Brazil and Know Europe programs.

Doing Business in Brazil is a two-week course taught in Sao Paulo, Brazil at the Fundacao Getulio Vargas, considered one of the top business schools in South America.  This program aims at teaching students business from a South American and Brazilian perspective and encompasses the many sectors that influence it, including but noDoing Business in Brazilt limited to culture and politics. Students who pursue this option can gain four credit hours of MBA elective credit, which can be applied to a concentration in International Business.  For many students this is a truly eye-opening and experiential learning opportunity. Below are some course subjects from recent years:
  • Brazil and the International Economy
  • Finance and Banking
  • Brazilian Marketing Dynamics
  • Culture in Brazil
  • Foreign Trade
  • Strategies of Multinationals in Brazil

Know Europe is a four-week course taught through the ESC Normandy School of Business.  This program is organized in several different European countries including, Brussels, Belgium; Haarlem, Amsterdam; Paris, Le Havre, and Caen, France; and Barcelona, Spain.  Arc De TriompheDuring this program students meet with local businesses and study major aspects of European business and culture.  Students who take part in this course of study can earn up to six credit hours of MBA elective credit, which can be counted towards a concentration in International Business.

For students interested in these study abroad opportunities for the summer of 2011, there will be several information session held throughout the spring 2011 semester.  Please stay tuned as our first information session will occur in late January or early February. Final dates and times for these sessions will be posted in "Events" section in the My Liautaud Loop student portal.
